Talk show presenter Trisha Goddard has said she is living "day to day" after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Goddard, who presents Five's Trisha programme, was told in March she had cancer after a lump was found during a routine mammogram.

The 50-year-old told GMTV: "People ring up to say 'How are you?' I say 'Right here, right now, at this moment, fine.'

She also admitted getting a little drunk before cutting her hair in preparation for chemotherapy treatment.

Last month, she revealed a new blonde cropped hairstyle, which she said was husband Peter Gianfrancesco's idea.

When I went into the operation I didn't know how I was going to come out

"Peter said, 'Get it cut off, dye it blonde, release one photo to the press and say 'there you are,' - so that's what I did," she explained.

"I didn't want people snooping around my house as I've had before, trying to get shots of me.

"But I don't want to make it sound like it was all fun, fun, fun. I did have to get a bit drunk to do it."

'No grand plans'

She added: "How I'll be further into my chemo, I don't know.

"I'll remember this time and keep my fitness going but I'll just do little things now, no grand plans."

Goddard, who has two children, also spoke of her feelings before her first operation.

"I didn't know how I was going to come out," she recalled.

"I didn't know how much of my breast I was going to have, whether it would be a lumpectomy, a partial mastectomy, a mastectomy, all the lymph nodes. I didn't know."

Goddard presented her daytime talk show on ITV1 for six years before moving to Five.

She previously worked in Australia for 13 years as a TV reporter, presenter and government adviser on mental health.
