US rapper Warren G will not face prosecution on drug charges.

Los Angeles police arrested the star, real name Warren Griffin III, after finding marijuana in the car he was travelling in, on Sunday.

Mr Griffin, 35, was travelling in a car registered to a third party who was not in the vehicle when it was searched.

A spokeswoman for Los Angeles County District Attorney said there was insufficient evidence to prove Mr Griffin knew about the drugs.

Bail payment

Police originally stopped the vehicle on suspicion of jumping a red light near Hollywood Boulevard.

Driver Ryan Butler, 29, and Mr Griffin were released on bail later that day after paying $20,000 (£10,000) each.

Mr Griffin grew up in Long Beach, California, and is known for helping popularise G-funk rap, a West Coast-branded style of hip-hop that emerged in the early 1990s.

He is known in the UK for his 1994 single, Regulate.
