The star told police at a security checkpoint that he had forgotten he had the gun with him.

He was released on bail on Sunday night after being charged with carrying an unregistered weapon.

The 64-year-old has appeared in dozens of films including Get Shorty, Saving Private Ryan and Guy Ritchie's Snatch.

His latest movie, What Happens in Vegas, premiered in the UK last month and stars Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher.
