Singer Kenny Chesney carried on performing after injuring his foot during a concert in the US.

The US country star managed to finish his two-hour set at the Williams-Brice Stadium, in Columbia, South Carolina, despite being in obvious pain.

The accident happened on Saturday when Chesney's foot caught between a rising plinth and the stage.

Chesney said his boot had to be cut off after the show, but he did not reveal how serious the injury was.

He added that he never considered stopping the show, which was part of his Poets & Pirates Tour 2008.

Chesney's next concert will be in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, but promoters have not announced whether his injured foot will affect the performance.

Chesney, the former husband of actress Renee Zellweger, is one of the biggest country stars in the US.

He is up for 11 awards at this year's Academy of Country Music Awards, including entertainer of the year, top male vocalist, as well as song and video of the year for Don't Blink. The show takes place in Las Vegas in May.
