Mariah Carey has scored six US number one albums during her career

Mariah Carey has gone to the top of the US album chart, scoring the highest first-week sales of her career.

The diva's new release E=MC2 sold 463,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, knocking British singer Leona Lewis off the top spot.

Carey also scored the best first-week sales of the year so far, beating Jack Johnson's Sleep Through The Static, which sold 375,000 in February.

Lewis has dropped to number two, with Miley Cyrus in third place.

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert jumped 28 places. It is now available from all music retailers after five weeks of being exclusive to Wal-Mart.

E=MC2 is the sixth US number one album of Mariah Carey's career, and follows her hit song Touch My Body, which recently became her 18th chart-topping single.
