Diaz's latest film, What Happens in Las Vegas, is out in the UK in May

Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz has thanked fans for support after her father's death was announced.

Emilio Diaz, 58, passed away on Tuesday from complications due to pneumonia.

In a statement Diaz said her family were "deeply appreciative of the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this difficult time".

A spokeswoman for the 35-year-old said it was unclear whether she would go ahead with a UK trip next week to promote film What Happens in Las Vegas.

The British premiere of the movie will take place in London's Leicester Square on Tuesday.

"My dad was loved by so many people and his humour and spirit will always live on in our hearts," the actress said.

In What Happens in Las Vegas, Diaz and Ashton Kutcher play a couple who marry following a night of debauchery.

They also discover one of them has won a huge jackpot having used the other's money.

The movie is to be released in the UK on 9 May.

Diaz is best known for her comic role in There's Something About Mary. She also voiced the character of Princess Fiona in the Shrek films.
