US drink-drive arrest for Sambora

Richie Sambora
Police said Sambora was 'very cooperative' during his arrest

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has been arrested in California on suspicion of drink driving.

Sambora, 48, was arrested after a police officer noticed his black Hummer weaving in traffic lanes in Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

He was ordered to appear in court on 7 May on one count of driving under the influence, police said.

But Sambora, who had two minors in his vehicle at the time, could also face further charges of child endangerment.

Test results

Police said they will consider the further charges if Sambora's blood-alcohol level results comes back above the legal limit of .08.

Blood test results are expected to take about one week, Laguna Beach police spokesman Sgt Jason Kravetz said.

Bon Jovi spokesman Ken Sunshine declined to comment on Sambora's arrest.

Sambora co-founded Bon Jovi in 1983, along with frontman Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, bassist Alec John Such, and drummer Tico Torres.

Their hit albums include Slippery When Wet, New Jersey, and Keep the Faith.

The group released their latest album, Lost Highway, in 2007.
