Richie and Miller get life awards

Lionel Richie and Steve Miller are to be awarded with lifetime achievement honours at this year's American Society Of Composers awards.

The pair will be presented with Golden Note Awards, which go to songwriters and composers who have achieved "extraordinary career milestones".

Previous winners include Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Jermaine Dupri and Quincy Jones.

The ceremony is on 9 April at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Richie, who already has Academy and Grammy awards under his belt, was formerly in Motown group the Commodores, who had hits with Three Times A Lady and Easy.

He then went on to enjoy huge solo success in the 1980s with hit singles including All Night Long (All Night), Dancing On The Ceiling and Hello, and has sold more than 100 million records.

Miller meanwhile, frontman of the Steve Miller Band, is famed for such rock classics as The Joker, Abracadabra and Fly Like an Eagle.

As well as the two lifetime achievement awards, this year's awards will honour the songwriters and publishers of the academy's most performed pop songs of 2007.
