Lopez gives birth to girl and boy

Lopez confirmed the pregnancy on stage in November

Pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez has become a mother for the first time after giving birth to twins.

The star, who is married to singer Marc Anthony, delivered a boy and girl at a hospital in Long Island, New York.

"They are healthy, happy and thrilled," the singer's representative, Simon Fields, said of the couple.

People magazine paid up to $6m (£3m) for the first pictures of the twins, it has been reported in the US. Lopez, 39, and Marc Anthony, 38, married in 2004.

Mr Fields confirmed that the girl arrived first, weighing 5lb 7oz (2.5kg). The boy was delivered 15 minutes later, weighing in at 6lb (2.7kg).

Rumours that the singer was pregnant dominated gossip magazines for months, but Lopez only confirmed them during a concert in south Florida last November.

After her announcement, Anthony kissed Lopez's stomach and said: "I didn't know she was going to talk."

The babies have not yet been named.
