Pregnant singer Madonna has denied a report which claims she knows the sex of her baby.

The Sun claimed on Wednesday the 41-year-old pop star was "delighted" to hear she was expecting a boy in September, a brother for her three-year-old daughter Lourdes.

The baby's father, British film director Guy Ritchie, 31, was said to be "over the moon" at the news.

But in a statement issued through her record company, Warner Bros, she said: "Despite what you may have read, including quotes falsely attributed to me, I do not know the sex of my baby and have no plans for marriage."

The child's sex was determined during a routine scan, the paper said.

Last month she hit number one hit in the British singles charts with her cover of Don McLean's American Pie.

The Sun has not the only newspaper to feature Madonna prominently in its pages - on Wednesday, both The Mirror and the Daily Mail featured paparazzi pictures of her in Los Angeles showing the first signs of her pregnancy.

Last month she appealed for privacy after confirming she was pregnant.
