US music producer Dorn dies at 65

Dorn produced both Flack and Midler's debut albums

Veteran record producer Joel Dorn, who worked with such US artists as Roberta Flack and Bette Midler, has died of a heart attack in New York aged 65.

He produced Midler's debut album and worked with Flack on her classic tracks The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Killing Me Softly With His Song.

Dorn, a one-time disc jockey, was well known for his work with jazz artists at Atlantic Records between 1967 and 1974.

He also worked with rock acts like the Allman Brothers Band and Don McLean.

Dorn left Atlantic in 1974 to work with acts including Lou Rawls and the Neville Brothers. His collaboration with the latter produced their 1981 hit Fiyo on the Bayou.

According to Edgar Bronfman Jr of Warner Music Group, Atlantic Records' parent company, Dorn "bridged the worlds of jazz and pop with enormous skill and grace".
