Klaxons' double win in NME poll
The Klaxons
The Klaxons won the Mercury Music Prize in September
Mercury Prize winners Klaxons have topped NME magazine's poll to find the best album of the year.

Their debut, Myths of the Near Future, beat albums from Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire to take the number one spot in the annual poll.

The "new rave" band's top 10 hit single, Golden Skans, was also named the number one track of 2007.

James Righton, Klaxons' keyboardist and co-vocalist, said he was "absolutely ecstatic" at the result.

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends
The band, who picked up £20,000 when they won the Mercury prize in September, started the year as the headline act on the NME's indie rave tour.

Guitarist Simon Taylor is due to marry Lovefoxxx, lead singer with Brazilian support act CSS, this winter.

The NME lists were compiled by the entire NME and NME.com teams and recognise the acts "making the very best new music".

Contenders included established artists like PJ Harvey, The White Stripes and The Coral, as well as newcomers Foals and Glasvegas.

"The lists this year go from the mainstream to more specialised and really show how rich the output of music in 2007 has been," said NME reviews editor Julian Marshall.

"Now we're gearing up for what 2008 has to offer."
