Kate Bush's last new material was the album Aerial in 2005
Kate Bush has recorded a new song for the soundtrack to the Golden Compass, based on Philip Pullman's book.

Lyra was written and produced by Bush, featuring Oxford's Magdalen College choir. It will be her first new material since 2005.

The song is named after lead character Lyra Belacqua, played in the movie by Dakota Blue Richards.

Starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, the film and its soundtrack will be released next month.

Bush's last new material appeared on the critically acclaimed album Aerial, her first album for 12 years.

Her song will feature over the film's end credits.

Directed by About A Boy's Chris Weitz, the movie is an adaptation of the first book in Philip Pullman's successful fantasy trilogy.

Its name is the US title of the original book, Northern Lights.
