No bail for rapper on gun charges

TI was arrested on Saturday in an Atlanta shopping mall car park

US rapper TI has been denied bail after being arrested and charged with weapons offences, just hours before a planned appearance at an Atlanta awards event.

The 27-year-old - real name Clifford Harris - is charged with unlawfully possessing firearms, unregistered machine guns and silencers.

The Grammy-winning artist faces up to five years in prison if convicted.

TI's arrest at the weekend meant he was unable to attend the BET Hip-Hop Awards and collect two prizes.

The performer, who topped the US album chart earlier this year with TI vs TIP, had been shortlisted in nine categories.

TI is forbidden from owning firearms due to a previous conviction on drugs charges.
