Marriage split for Anne Robinson

Robinson has hosted The Weakest Link since 2000
The Weakest Link presenter Anne Robinson and her husband John Penrose are planning to divorce after 27 years.

The couple were parting on the grounds of irreconcilable differences, a spokesman said. "There is no-one else involved," he added.

"We have been an enormously important part of each other's lives for a very long time and our friendship will carry on forever," Robinson, 63, said.

She found fame in the UK and US with her icy put-downs on the quiz show.

Mr Penrose had acted as her agent and now runs a property company in the Cotswolds.

Their spokesman said Robinson would continue to divide her time between homes in London, Gloucestershire and New York.

Caustic columns

The couple met as young journalists on a news agency in north London and married in 1980, seven years after the end of Robinson's first marriage, to newspaper editor Charlie Wilson.

Her 2001 autobiography, Memoirs of an Unfit Mother, details her 1973 custody battle with Wilson over their daughter, Emma. It also dealt with her heavy drinking at the time, which ended when she gave up alcohol in 1978.

Robinson became the Daily Mail's assistant editor and was later known for pithy, caustic newspaper columns before she moved into TV, hosting consumer show Watchdog from 1993.

But it was the success of The Weakest Link, which began in 2000 on BBC Two, which saw her become a household name. She also fronted a US version of the series, while the format was sold around the world.

The couple's spokesman added: "There is no acrimony and Anne and John have reached on amicable settlement on all financial issues."
