Posh Spice gets Ugly acting role

Beckham goes on tour with the Spice Girls in December

Victoria Beckham, otherwise known as Posh Spice, has landed a guest role in hit US TV series Ugly Betty.

The Spice Girls singer will play a celebrity bridesmaid in a forthcoming episode of the comedy drama.

Beckham, who moved to Los Angeles in July, has no previous acting experience except for the 1997 Spice Girls movie, where she played herself.

Ugly Betty, a fashion world satire, has been a major ratings success in the US, where it is up for five Emmy awards.

The show returns for its second series on US network ABC on 27 September. It is due to be shown on Channel 4 in the UK next year.

Beckham's cameo role comes just months after her spoof fly-on-the-wall documentary was panned by US critics.

Victoria Beckham Coming to America, which showed the pop star setting up home in Hollywood with her footballer husband David, was branded "an orgy of self-indulgence" by the New York Post.

At the time of her move, the singer said she had no acting ambitions.

Beckham is due to take part in a Spice Girls reunion tour beginning in Canada later this year.

She has also launched her own fashion label, called dVb, and her own line of fragrances.
