Opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, who has been battling cancer, has left hospital after more than two weeks of treatment.

The 71-year-old tenor was admitted to hospital in Modena, Italy, on 8 August with a fever, and has since had tests related to his pancreatic cancer.

"All diagnostic tests having been completed," the hospital said.

He has now gone home, where he will "be able to continue to convalesce in the serenity of his family surroundings" with the support of doctors, it added.

Pavarotti has not been seen in public since having surgery to remove a tumour from his pancreas last July.

After the operation, his manager said the tumour had been "completely removed".

But despite hopes that he would be able to resume his farewell tour this year, his health has not allowed him to return to the stage.

Before this latest stay in hospital, however, his manager said he was "feeling stronger" and recording an album of classical religious music as well as teaching students.
