Heart problems have forced Kiss singer and guitarist Paul Stanley to abandon a show in California, US.

"My heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute where it stayed for over an hour," his website said.

Paramedics stopped and restarted his heart to give it a regular rhythm. He said the episode was "exhausting".

His band-mates Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer played the gig at Soboba Casino while singer and guitarist Stanley, 55, was in hospital.

They said Friday night's show was the first time they had performed as a trio.

Kiss formed in the 70s and are famous for their trademark make-up and on-stage antics, including tongue waggling.

They have been awarded 22 gold albums to date, and have certified sales of 19 million records in the US. The group's worldwide sales exceed 80 million albums and their hits include Rock and Roll All Nite and Crazy Nights.

Stanley, born Stanley Eisen, released a solo album, Live to Win, in 2006.
