Soap star's son 'joins US show'
Linus Roache
Linus Roache appeared in award-winning drama The Gathering Storm
Actor Linus Roache - son of Coronation Street actor William - is to join the cast of US drama Law and Order, according to an industry report.

The 43-year-old, best known for his role in the film Priest, will play the new district assistant attorney, says The Hollywood Reporter.

His father William has played Ken Barlow in the Manchester-based soap opera since it began in 1960.

Linus played Ken's on-screen son Peter in the show for some episodes in 1975.

In the new series of the US legal drama, Roache's character takes over from Jack McCoy, played by actor Sam Waterston, who has been promoted to district attorney.

In joining the series, he is reunited with actor Jeremy Sisto. The duo previously worked together on the last season of US drama Kidnapped.

Roache's other credits include the BBC drama Seaforth and big screen roles including 2005's Batman Begins.

Law and Order has been running since 1990, spawning spin-off series including Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Special Victims Unit.

It has been nominated at the Emmy awards every year from 1991-2003, winning outstanding drama series in 1992, 1993 and 1997.
