All Saints take T In The Park
Girl group All Saints are to perform at Scotland's T In The Park festival in July.
The foursome - sisters Nicole and Natalie Appleton, Shaznay Lewis and Melanie Blatt - will appear on the main stage at Balado, near Kinross, on Saturday 8 July. They recently hit number one in the singles charts with their track from the soundtrack to The Beach, Pure Shores. Travis and Macy Gray have already been announced as headliners for the two-day event, which also features performances from Ocean Colour Scene, Gomez, Fun Lovin' Criminals and Supergrass.
Embrace man out of hospital Embrace guitarist Richard McNamara has been released from hospital after being laid low for days by a mystery illness. McNamara is still awaiting the result of tests, but has been given the all clear to perform on the BBC's Top of The Pops this week. It had been feared he was suffering from a blood clot on his lung, and he had to pull out of ITV's Saturday morning pop show CD:UK. A spokesman for the Huddersfield-based group, fronted by Richard's brother Danny, said: "No-one knows exactly what it is yet, but he is feeling fine now." The band are at 14 in the UK singles charts with You're Not Alone, and they release their second album Drawn From Memory on Monday.
Top producer for Apes remake Oscar-winner Richard Zanuck has signed on as the producer of Twentieth Century Fox's long-awaited remake of sci-fi classic Planet of the Apes. Zanuck, who won a the best picture Academy Award for 1989's Driving Miss Daisy, was president of production at Fox when the 1968 original and its four sequels were made. According the entertainment newspaper Variety, Zanuck's signing is another sign of the priority the project has at Fox, which is aiming to start production in the autumn for a summer 2001 release. Tim Burton, whose film credits include Edward Scissorhands, Batman and Sleepy Hollow, is directing the project.
Noel's tough message for Liam Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher was told their latest album would have been abandoned unless he stopped drinking, brother Noel has said. "It was a bit of a bluff but it worked," the musician told the Los Angeles Times. "He didn't touch a drop for the three months we were making the record. He is slowly realising that he is a better person sober than drunk." Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants is currently at number six in the UK album chart.
My Way joins Fame greats Frank Sinatra's My Way, Chubby Checker's The Twist and The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night have been inducted into America's Hall of Fame. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the organisation that presents the Grammy Awards, now contains 498 titles in its archives. A spokesman said: "The induction of these musical masterpieces ensures they will remain part of the musical legacy provided for future generations."
Wrestler's hold on Mummy sequel US wrestling star The Rock is set to play the villain in the sequel to the 1999 box office hit The Mummy. The Rock, whose real name is Dwayne Johnson, is set to play the ruler of evil who is brought back to life. Filming of The Mummy 2 is set to start in London this summer. Brendan Fraser, John Hannah and Rachel Weiz will team up once more for the comic book-style movie.
Pregnant Madonna a "sweet, simple girl" Mother-to-be Madonna is just a "sweet and simple girl", according to the father of her British film director boyfriend. John Ritchie, who will become a grandfather for the first time when the baby is born, said Madonna and his son Guy were "very happy together". And he said of the pop superstar: "She's a nice, sweet, simple girl. She is a very nice person. She is very responsible and will make an excellent mum for Guy's baby."
Denise and Jim top TV flirts list Denise Van Outen and Jim Davidson have been named TV's top flirts, in a poll of 1,000 people conducted by Options magazine. Van Outen, who presents Something for the Weekend and Davidson, host of BBC One's Generation Game, were chosen over personalities such as Geri Halliwell and Chris Evans. "Both Jim and Denise are great flirts." said Peter Heskell of the UK Flirting Academy. "They hold eye contact well and have an inviting smile."
TV quiz for hard-up students Students will be offered the chance to pay off their debts thanks to new quiz show being piloted on Channel 4. Dicing with Debt will ask students questions on traditional areas of student expertise, such as daytime television and the price of a pint. Each roll of the furry dice will be accompanied by the chance to win prizes like "your height" in takeaway pizza or year's subsription to Radio Times. The top prize will be money to pay off any "legitimate debts" such as a student loan or bank overdraft.
