Geri's chart hat-trick
Geri Halliwell
Geri wowed audiences at the Brits with her risque act
Geri Halliwell has bagged her third number one, finally crushing the doubters who said her solo career would not take off.

The former Spice Girl went straight into the charts with Bag It Up, which knocked Bryan Adams' collaboration with Chicane off the top spot after just one week.

The track is the fourth single from her debut solo album Schizophonic.

Her first release Look At Me stalled at number two, but both Mi Chico Latino and Lift Me Up went one better.

The latter beat Baby Spice Emma Bunton's single What I Am to the top of the charts.

Halliwell has now featured on 10 number ones, scoring seven with the Spice Girls and three on her own.

Blink 182

On Sunday she overtook Scary Spice Mel B who had eight number ones with the group and a solo chart-topper in 1998 with I Want You Back.

Punk debutants

Halliwell had only sold 46,000 copies of the track by midweek - well below the 50,000 or so of Lift Me Up which she sold on the first day of its release.

But she recovered to pip US punk pop act Blink 182, who went straight in at number two.

Halliwell said: "I'm absolutely thrilled. Counting my time with the Spice Girls, this is my tenth number one, and to have three number ones and a number two on my first solo album is just a fantastic feeling.

"Again, I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all my fans who have stuck by me and helped make it all possible.

"I'm one very happy girl today."

Oasis continued to slip down the album charts, where they were eclipsed by double Brit Award winners Travis, who again topped the chart with The Man Who.
