The Elfstones of Shannara is expected to be the first film
Best-selling series The Shannara is the latest fantasy set to be transferred from book to big screen.

The 14-book series by Terry Brooks is set 1,000 years in the future where trolls and gnomes roam the Earth.

Warner Bros plans to start with the second book, The Elfstones of Shannara, trade newspaper Variety reported.

The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy proved a huge success, while Warner is banking on His Dark Materials to do big business at the box office.

Brooks is reportedly the second biggest-selling living fantasy book writer after JK Rowling.

Her Harry Potter books have already been turned into a successful film franchise by Warner Bros.

Brook's first book, The Sword of Shannara, was published by Random House in 1977.

He penned the novel to stave off the boredom he faced in law school.

It was the first fantasy book to reach, and then top, the New York Times best-seller list.
