Porter's appeal for first film
Gail Porter
Gail Porter: Making film debut in The Great Bear
Television presenter Gail Porter has teamed up with comedian Gordon Kennedy to raise money for her cinema debut.

The duo appeared at a restaurant in Glasgow on Tuesday evening to try to attract potential investors for the film, The Great Bear, which also stars former Rangers footballer Ally McCoist.

The black comedy, shot and set in Scotland, tells the story of 10 people who have life-threatening illnesses who have been deemed unviable by the NHS. The group then embark on scams to raise the money for treatment.

Kennedy said: "There has been an enormous amount of effort put into this and this get together represents the final push on the finance front.

"There is a real buzz about the whole thing and the team behind it are getting out there and making it work."

Screenplay writer Alan J Kelly added: "We have a star-studded cast and all concerned with the project realise we are on the threshold of something special."

The Great Bear will mark Porter's film debut. She currently presents slots on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast as well as Channel 5's Movie Chart Show.

McCoist was the top scorer in Rangers' history, but has since developed a media career away from the field, appearing on the BBC One quiz A Question of Sport and chat show McCoist and MacAulay. He also appeared with Robert Duvall in the film The Cup.

Brit Award winners Travis feature on the soundtrack for the film, which is due to be released in March 2001.
