Pop diva Mariah Carey delights fans
Pop diva Mariah Carey has played her first concert in Britain in three years before a host of stars at Wembley Arena in London.

Saturday's show, part of the singer's first world tour in eight years, was her only UK date.

The Grammy award-winning singer took to take the stage in front of a host of stars, among them Spice Girls Emma Bunton and Mel C, supermodel Claudia Schiffer and her fiance Tim Jefferies, top girl group All Saints and former EastEnder Martine McCutcheon.

Also in the crowd were TV presenter Denise Van Outen and footballers Ian Wright and David Ginola.

Carey's new single, Thank God I Found You, is released in the UK on Monday.

The New Yorker has enjoyed massive hits in Britain such as Without You, My All, I'll Be There and One Sweet Day.

Her awards include two Grammys, eight American Music Awards, seven World Music Awards and four Soul Train Awards.

Artist of the decade

At last year's Billboard Awards she was crowned Artist of the Decade.

Earlier this month she became only the third artist to receive the American Music Award of Achievement.

Since her debut in 1990 Carey has sold more than 120 million records world-wide - five million of them in the UK.

When her single Heartbreaker reached number one in the US in September, it was her 14th American chart-topper.

When the single entered its second week at the top, she broke The Beatles' record of 59 weeks at number one to become the most successful artist in the history of the Billboard chart.

The pop superstar is now embarking on an acting career.

She makes her first screen appearance in The Bachelor - as a temperamental opera singer opposite Chris O'Donnell.

After her Wembley date, Carey's Rainbow Tour will see her visit Madrid in Spain, Osaka and Tokyo in Japan, Singapore, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Toronto and New York.
