Model Lily Cole has signed up to star in the new St Trinian's film, alongside Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Jodie Whittaker and Stephen Fry.

The 18-year-old will play student Polly in the new version of the comedy.

The first film chronicling the unruly adventures at the "school for young ladies" was made in 1954 and starred Alastair Sim and Joyce Grenfell.

Shooting has already begun at Ealing Studios, London. The movie is due for release early next year.

Respectable institution

Everett will star in the movie in the dual role of both the headmistress and her brother, whilst Firth will play an MP.

Other new names include Bridget Jones's Diary star Celia Imrie as Matron, Spooks actress Anna Chancellor as Miss Bagstock and Lena Headey as teacher Miss Dickinson.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets actor Toby Jones has been cast as the school's bursar.

The film will see the school's dire financial situation making it vulnerable to an MP's plans to turn it into a respectable institution.

Ealing Studios produced some of Britain's best-loved comedies of the 1940s and 50s, including Whisky Galore and The Ladykillers.
