TV bride dumps millionaire husband
Darva Conger: Cried all the way to honeymoon Game show bride Darva Conger has said she wants to end her TV marriage to a millionaire.
"I don't need anyone else's money, I don't want anyone else's money. I just want my life back," she told US TV.
Thirty four-year-old Ms Conger said she and Rick Rockwell, 42, had not consummated their marriage and she had gone on Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire for a "lark". She had cried all the way to their Barbados honeymoon, where the couple stayed in separate cabins.
"I never, ever, considered having a sexual relationship with him, just as I would not consider having a sexual relationship with anyone I had just met," the Californian nurse told ABC's Good Morning America.
She said she was not attracted to comedian and real estate developer Mr Rockwell and had told him so after the TV wedding on 15 February. "The minute I could take a deep breath and think, I took him aside and said: 'Listen I don't have these feelings for you.'"
Ms Conger, who supports both her mother and her brother, who has cerebral
Palsy, said she did not need Mr Rockwell's cash.
She said: "I have worked my whole life to be a credible person, a person of integrity. Unfortunately in two hours I destroyed much of that credibility." However, it appears she did not go away entirely empty-handed. A show spokesman said Ms Conger received prizes worth a total of $100,000, the honeymoon, a $35,000 engagement ring and a jeep. Ms Conger was chosen by Mr Rockwell from five finalists in wedding gowns and then married him in front of 16 million viewers at the end of the show. "I'll be your friend, your lover, your partner. You'll never be bored," she promised during the show. 'She's great' Public outcry followed and soon after leaving for their honeymoon, the groom was accused of violence by a past fiancee. Broadcasters Fox has axed the show. Ms Conger said she could not comment on reports Mr Rockwell had been violent with a previous girlfriend, an allegation he has strongly denied. "I don't know him very well," she said. As for Mr Rockwell, he does not seem to harbour any hard feelings. He said he would also probably have had the marriage annulled. "She's a great person," he told reporters on Monday, between bites of pizza. "And I like her a lot." |
