Kill Bill actress Vivica A Fox has been released from a California prison after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving, police have said.

Ms Fox, 42, was stopped on Tuesday in Hollywood after her car passed a patrol car at 80mph, Californian Highway Patrol officer Leland Tang said.

The arrest report said Ms Fox was unable to stay in the correct lane.

Mr Tang said Ms Fox's blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. A court date has not been set.

A woman who answered the phone at the office of Ms Fox's manager told the Associated Press: "We have no comment on that."

Ms Fox is currently starring in the TV drama Missing on the US cable network Lifetime and recently competed in talent show Dancing With The Stars.

The actress played assassin Vernita Green in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill films.

She has also appeared in Independence Day, Ella Enchanted and Soul Food.
