George Michael
The UK leg of Michael's tour will take in five cities
George Michael fans are snapping up tickets for the singer's upcoming European tour.

The star will play the first concert at the new Wembley Stadium on 9 June during the UK leg of the tour.

Tickets for the tour, which begins in Denmark on 18 May, went on sale on Thursday morning.

Fan club members have been able to buy pre-sale tickets since Tuesday. He will also appear in Glasgow, Manchester, Plymouth and Norwich.

Farewell gig

The 757m Wembley venue was due to reopen in August 2005, but a series of hold-ups led to a number of musical and sporting events being postponed.

Michael will also perform in Glasgow, Manchester, Norwich and Plymouth.

The pop star will also visit France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Holland and Hungary as part of the 25 Live Stadium Tour.

The former Wham! star, 43, played several key gigs at the old Wembley stadium, including Live Aid in 1985 and Wham's farewell concert in 1986 with ex-bandmate Andrew Ridgeley.

Michael is currently facing a drugs trial after being charged with being unfit to drive through drugs and cautioned for cannabis possession.

During a hearing at Brent Magistrates' Court on Wednesday the prosecution also added a indictment of being in charge of a vehicle while unfit through drugs.

A trial is expected in May or June.
