Titchmarsh gets his own chat show
Alan Titchmarsh
Titchmarsh was one of the faces of the BBC's Ground Force series
Gardener Alan Titchmarsh is to present his own daytime chat show on ITV1.

The channel promised a mix of music and conversation, and said that ways for him to branch out into primetime programmes would also be considered.

Titchmarsh hosted the BBC's Pebble Mill at One in the 1990s and did a short stint on Channel 4 last year covering for Paul O'Grady.

He will still do some BBC work, such as TV coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show and his Radio 2 show Melodies For You.

The 57-year-old said he had always enjoyed "new challenges" and was excited about his ITV1 series, which will initially run for 40 episodes.

"The chance to meet and talk with people from all walks of life, both the famous and the less well-known 'national treasures', is something I have always enjoyed.

"The opportunity to be back in 'live' television with a mixture of music, the arts and conversation is irresistible."
