US singer Kelis Rogers-Jones has been charged with disorderly conduct and been released on bail after trying to disrupt a police operation, police say.

She was detained in the early hours of Friday morning. The Miami Beach arrest report said she was also charged with resisting arrest without violence.

The singer rushed towards officers in the South Beach area while screaming racial profanities at them, it added.

The AP news agency said Roger-Jones' representatives could not be reached.

The 27-year-old is best known for her hit single Milkshake.

The police report said the officers were talking with a group of men that included her husband, the rapper Nas, on a South Beach avenue when the Rogers-Jones rushed at them.

The officers asked her to step away, but the report said that she continued shouting before charging at them again. She was then restrained by friends, it added.

The report goes on to say that Rogers-Jones resisted arrest while being handcuffed.

She married rapper Nas two years ago.
