Hollywood actor Jeff Goldblum has won a restraining order against a woman he claims has stalked him for years.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered Linda Ransom, 44, to stay at least 100m from the actor, his home, workplace and vehicle.

Mr Goldblum had alleged an "escalating pattern of harassing, threatening, and stalking behaviour", including threatening letters, since 2001.

The 54-year-old actor has been in films including The Fly and Jurassic Park.

He said Ms Ransom had visited his home more than 50 times in recent months, sometimes blocking him coming and going by parking her car across his driveway.

'Accurate research'

In a written declaration to the court, Ms Ransom said she had met Mr Goldblum at an acting school where he taught and had sought advice on a screenplay she was writing.

Her visits to his home were "to support my efforts to complete my research and screenplay as accurate as possible", she claimed.

As well as starring in movies including Independence Day, The Tall Guy and The Big Chill, Goldblum was nominated for an Emmy as a guest star in the sitcom Will & Grace.

He also earned an Oscar nomination for his 1995 short film, Little Surprises.

The actor was most recently seen in the Robin Williams comedy Man of the Year.
