Australian rock musician Billy Thorpe - who gained fame in the 1960s as lead singer of The Aztecs - has died at the age of 60.

The British-born singer, songwriter and guitarist suffered a heart attack at his Sydney home and died in hospital.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard said he was saddened at the news.

Thorpe, famous for hits such as Most People I Know (Think That I'm Crazy), had recently recorded a new album and finished an acoustic tour of Australia.
