Showdown for 'missing' soap star
Steven Arnold
A spokeswoman said Arnold had never gone missing in the past
Coronation Street actor Steven Arnold has been told to explain to producers why he failed to turn up for work, causing a day's filming to be scrapped.

The 32-year-old, who plays butcher Ashley Peacock, was absent on Friday.

The rest of the ITV1 soap's cast and crew were sent home. Arnold is expected to meet senior producers on Monday.

"We couldn't raise him or find him all Friday and Saturday," a spokeswoman said. "I don't know if he was ill or unaware he was needed for filming."

But he had "now surfaced", she said. "He has never done it before and I am sure he won't do it again."

Arnold joined the programme 11 years ago, having previously appeared in shows such as The Bill, Hetty Wainthrop Investigates and Children's Ward.
