Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton has won ITV1 song contest Soapstar Superstar in a live final showdown with Emmerdale star Hayley Tamaddon.

The 31-year-old, who plays Sean Tully in the ITV1 soap, was one of 11 stars from various TV soaps who took part in the contest.

On winning the title, Cotton said: "I was convinced it was Hayley. I'm absolutely gobsmacked."

His prize was a 200,000 donation to the Elton John Aids Foundation.

Disco hit

Cotton sang a version of Tears for Fears' Mad World, gave a rendition of Boyzone's Love Me For A Reason, and ended the contest with Elton John's Daniel.

Tamaddon, who has played Delilah Dingle in the soap since 2005, sang the Pointer Sister's classic Jump, Atomic Kitten's Whole Again, and the disco hit Feels Like I'm In Love.

Last year's winner Richard Fleeshman also put in an appearance, singing New York State Of Mind.

Other contestants throughout the series were fellow Coronation Street stars Tupele Dorgu (Kelly Crabtree) and Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby), while Emmderdale's Verity Rushworth (Donna Windsor) and Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe) also sang.

Hollyoaks stars Gemma Atkinson (Lisa Hunter) and Leon Lopez (Tank Top), former EastEnder Elaine Lordan (Lynne Hobbs), Neighbours' Alan Fletcher (Dr Karl Kennedy) and Home and Away's Mark Furze (Eric "Ric" Dalby) completed the line-up.
