Pellow and Waterman win duet show

Wishing I Was Lucky and Angel Eyes were among Pellow's hits
Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow and former EastEnders actress Hannah Waterman have won the BBC's celebrity duets contest Just the Two of Us.

They performed Van Morrison's hit Have I Told You Lately, winning acclaim from the programme's judges.

They beat soul star Beverley Knight and Brendan Cole - previously seen on Strictly Come Dancing - into second.

The runners-up received top scores from the panel for their rendition of Brown Sugar by the Rolling Stones.

And Knight, who was made an MBE last year for services to music, was so overwhelmed by the final that she burst into tears.

She admitted that she was "disappointed" to lose.

But she praised Waterman for putting "a hell of a lot of work" into her singing, and for improving so much throughout the six-part series.

Waterman's father Dennis was among those in the audience to applaud his daughter.

"I've never won anything in my life," the actress yelled, as she and Pellow - whose group reformed in 2004 - were presented with the trophy.

Cricketer Mark Butcher and soprano Sarah Brightman came third out of the three couples on Sunday's programme, and were first to leave.

Eight sets of celebrities took part in the contest, which was broadcast on six consecutive evenings.
