Rapper Busta Rhymes has been arrested after a man complained the hip-hop star had beaten him up in a dispute over money, New York police said.
Rhymes - real name Trevor Smith - turned himself in at a Manhattan police station and was charged with assault.
The un-named man, who was treated in hospital, claimed he was punched and kicked by the star numerous times in a confrontation on 26 December.
A lawyer for the rap star declined to comment about the incident.
Mr Smith, 34, turned himself in and was booked on a misdemeanour assault charge, police said.
In August 2006 he was arrested and charged over an alleged assault on a teenager, in a case which is still ongoing.
Police have also sought to question him as a potential witness in the shooting death of his bodyguard Israel Ramirez last February.
His hits include Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See, Dangerous and Touch It. He has also appeared in films including 2000's Shaft and Finding Forrester.
