Happy Feet beats Bond movie again

Animated comedy Happy Feet has held off Casino Royale at the North American box office for the second weekend in a row.

Its dancing penguins stayed at number one, taking $37.9m (£19.6m), compared to $31m (£16m) for the Bond thriller.

Happy Feet has now earned $100m (£52m) in a fortnight, a period which includes the annual US Thanksgiving holiday.

But there was some good news for Casino Royale, which was now on course to become the highest-grossing Bond film, distributor Columbia Pictures said.

The movie, starring Daniel Craig, has generated $94.2m (£48.6m) in its two weeks in North American cinemas and $224m (£115m) worldwide, the company estimates.

Time-travelling thriller Deja Vu, starring Denzel Washington, was the highest new entry on the chart at number three.

Deck the Halls, a Christmas comedy about two neighbours, made its debut in fourth place on $12m (£6.2m).

Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito play fathers who fight about which of their festive lighting displays is the best.

Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat film fell to fifth place in its fourth week of release, and also down two places was The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, with Tim Allen.

There were two other entries in the top 10, with Bobby - a drama about the night Senator Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968 - moving up from 37 to number nine.

And The Fountain, a sci-fi drama featuring Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman, was new at number 10.
