Martine's dramatic TV return

Martine McCutcheon now has a successful singing career

Former EastEnders star Martine McCutcheon is to take on her first acting role since quitting the soap - as a drug-dealing villainess in a TV drama.

The 23-year-old actress, who became famous as loveable barmaid Tiffany in the BBC soap, will be making a guest appearance on the ITV customs series The Knock.

She will play glamorous club owner Jenny Foster in the episode to be filmed next month and screened in the autumn.

Since leaving EastEnders in 1998, McCutcheon has focused on her singing career and has notched up a string of chart hits, including Perfect Moment and Love Me.

But now the makers of top-rated show The Knock have lured her back to acting with a radical change of role.

Her new character is rich and ambitious - a world away from Albert Square's girl-next-door.

Knock producer Philip Leach said: "We've written this character with Martine in mind and fans will see her in a very different light."

Amongst the other famous faces who will be making guest appearances in the series are former Bottom star Rick Mayall, who will play a hostage negotiator in the first episode of the series.

Queer as Folk actor Peter O'Brien and ex-Casualty star Jonathan Kerrigan are among the show's new regular cast.
