I was madly in love, Mills says
Heather Mills and Paul McCartney
The couple married in the Republic of Ireland in 2002

Heather Mills McCartney has said she was "madly in love" with her now estranged husband Sir Paul McCartney but that "it just didn't work out".

"I fell in love for the right reasons," she told US television programme Extra. "I'm a good mother, I'm a good person."

Speaking for the first time publicly about the split, the former model said she would never marry again.

The ex-Beatle, 64, and Lady McCartney, 38, announced their separation in May after four years of marriage.

I was just madly in love, blinded by love, and totally, totally madly in love
Lady McCartney

In the interview, Lady McCartney revealed that she had loved Sir Paul "unconditionally".

"I was just madly in love, blinded by love, and totally, totally madly in love."

The full conversation will be shown on Tuesday and Wednesday in the US.

Much of the couple's divorce has been played out in the newspapers before it reaches the courts, and damaging allegations about both parties have been made.

Earlier this month Sir Paul McCartney urged everyone connected with his divorce to behave with dignity.

He told the BBC it was a "private affair" and acting in a dignified manner "put less noses out of joint".
