Country music legend Dolly Parton has announced seven UK arena concerts as part of her first extended European tour since the 1970s.

The singer, whose best known songs include Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You, hits the UK in March.

"I just hope y'all will come out and see this little girl from Tennessee walk out on that big ole stage and make her dreams come true," she said.

The 60-year-old has announced 18 shows in eight countries in March and April.

"I have loved performing since I was big enough to wrestle my little brothers and sisters into sitting long enough for me to sing my latest musical masterpiece," she said in a statement.

"Don't make me wrestle you too, 'cause I will if I have to," she joked to her fans.

Parton has had 18 gold and platinum albums in the US and won seven Grammy awards in a career spanning more than 40 years.

She has also acted in films including Nine to Five, Steel Magnolias and Straight Talk, and twice been Academy Award-nominated for best original song.
