Bindi gave a moving speech at her father's memorial

Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late Steve Irwin, will star in a wildlife series for the Discovery Kids network.

Naturalist Irwin was to co-star with eight-year-old Bindi before his death in September after being spiked in the chest by the barb of a stingray.

Discovery's publicist, Annie Howell told the Associated Press: "Steve and Bindi were very enthusiastic about doing the show together."

Bindi, The Jungle Girl is due to begin early next year.

Bindi gave a moving speech at her father's memorial service. She called him her hero and vowed to continue helping endangered wildlife just like he did.

More than 5,000 people attended the ceremony which was held at the Australian's Crocoseum stadium in Queensland.

"Some people think that I would be afraid of them, but I'm never afraid of an animal," she recently told ABC's Australian Story.

"I just get excited and some that are dangerous I just think 'Oooh! What's going to happen?' and things like that," she added.

The series had already started filming before Irwin, also known as the Crocodile Hunter, died.

Irwin's manager John Stainton told the People magazine's website that scenes already filmed by him will be included.
