ITV has axed long-running drama Where the Heart Is, it has been confirmed.
Actress Shobna Gulati was one of the recent additions to the series
Set in the fictional Yorkshire town of Skelthwaite, it has proven a reliable ratings draw with viewing figures regularly topping 6m.
ITV has not commissioned a new series to allow programmes aimed at a younger audience to air in the so-called Sunday evening "golden slot".
A spokesman said they wanted to make way for new ideas. The last episode of the drama was screened last month.
"Where the Heart Is has been a very successful series for ITV1, but the decision has been taken in order to create some flexibility for new programme ideas in that 2000 BST Sunday night slot alongside Heartbeat, The Royal and Wild at Heart," he said.
Much of the series was filmed in the Colne Valley, with the West Yorkshire villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden used for external shots.
