Chumbawamba blast Blair

Anarchist band Chumbawamba have lashed out at New Labour with a special single slamming Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Called Tony Blair, the song says the PM is a "liar" and a "hypocrite".

It will not be released in shops, but be given straight to Chumbawamba fans.

A spokesman for the band said: "It's something they wanted to get off their chests and get out to the fans."

The group, famed for their 1997 hit Tubthumping and for dumping water over John Prescott at an awards ceremony, have also sent copies to 10 Downing Street.

They are planning to release a new album in the New Year.




Bulworth actress Berry is engaged

Bulworth star Halle Berry has got engaged to R 'n' B singer Eric Benet, two years after they met at one of his concerts in Los Angeles.

Berry's publicist, Patti Webster, said the two had been seeing each other for a year, and that no wedding date had yet been set.

The 33-year-old actress, who divorced baseball player David Justice in 1996, was nominated earlier this week for a Golden Globe for her part in the film Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, in which she plays the the first black actress to win a Golden Globe.




Carrey's car chase drama

The Truman Show star Jim Carrey "feared for his life" during a real-life car chase through the streets of Los Angeles, it has been reported in the US.

The 37-year-old comedian was returning from the premiere of his latest film, Man in the Moon, when he noticed several cars following his limousine.

Carrey's chauffeur alerted police, who intercepted the pursuing vehicles and questioned the drivers. No arrests have been made following the incident.




Willis to avoid action films

Hollywood hardman Bruce Willis says he is keen to give his action hero persona a rest and concentrate on improving his acting skills.

The 44-year-old actor says he is on a "gun moratorium" and vows to do "no action for a while", although he has signed up to appear in Die Hard 4.

"I'm practicing the less-is-more school of acting. I'm seeing how little I can do and still be interesting," said the Sixth Sense star.




Hunt on the mend

Actor Gareth Hunt has left intensive care and is making a steady recovery in hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Hunt, 58, best known for Nescafe commercials and 70s series The New Avengers, was taken ill at hi Surrey home on Sunday.

He has had to pull out of the pantomime Aladdin in Malvern, Worcestershire, where his place has been taken by Robert Duncan, who played meddling manager Gus in Channel 4 comedy Drop The Dead Donkey.

Hunt recently teamed up with his New Avengers co-star Joanna Lumley to relaunch an internet talent company.
