Wizard price for Oz dress

Garland's gingham pinafore was made especially for her

A dress worn by actress Judy Garland in the film The Wizard of Oz has been sold at auction for 199,500 ($324,000) - 10 times the expected price.

The blue door was considered a star attraction at the sale
The blue and white gingham pinafore from the 1939 MGM classic was bought by New York archivist Michael Benson at the annual Christie's Film and Entertainment sale in London.

Benson, who has staged special exhibitions dedicated to the star, said he was "delighted" to have beaten seven other telephone bidders to take the prized possession.

At the same sale, Hugh Grant's chipped front door from the smash hit comedy Notting Hill, which was expected to fetch 6,000, was bought for 5,750 (9,300).

A Christie's spokeswoman said the buyer - a woman who once ran an antique shop in Notting Hill's Portobello Road - was planning to use it for her boat in Devon.

Harrison's Ford's screen props and personal stationery were popular
Another high earner in the sale of four decades of Hollywood and British film industry memorabilia was Harrison Ford's kangaroo hide bullwhip, used in his three Indiana Jones films.

It was sold along with some of the actor's personalised stationery for 27,000 ($43,800) despite having a top pre-sale price of 20,000.

While a snake-shaped bangle from the 1999 Oscar-winning Shakespeare in Love fetched 4,370 ($7,100).
