Two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks is the most trusted celebrity in America, according to business website Forbes.

The Hollywood actor came top of a list of more than 1,500 stars compiled by marketing firm Davie-Brown Talent.

Celebrity cook Rachael Ray came second, while Back to the Future actor Michael J Fox came third in the rundown.

Other names in the Top 10 include talk show host Oprah Winfrey, James Earl Jones - the voice of Star Wars villain Darth Vader - and Morgan Freeman.

Denzel Washington, Reese Witherspoon and Da Vinci Code director Ron Howard also feature.

'Esteem and respect'

Earlier this year Hanks was ranked 31st in Forbes.com's annual list of the world's most powerful celebrities.

The 50-year-old was recently seen The Da Vinci Code playing an expert in religious symbols unravelling a murderous conspiracy.

Forbes cites Hanks' roles in 1993's Philadelphia and 1994's Forrest Gump as career highlights.

"Through it all the Academy Award-winning actor and director managed to earn our esteem, respect and confidence," it writes on its website.
