Cherie's Rocky Horror father
Cult role: Tony Booth will appear in kinky gear
Cherie Blair's father is to appear on stage dressed in stockings and suspenders in a production of The Rocky Horror Show.

Tony Booth, Prime Minister Tony Blair's father-in-law, will appear as the narrator in the cult show for three nights at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre from 6 December .

Booth, who shot to fame in the 1960s TV series Till Death Us Do Part as Alf Garnett's son-in-law Mike, recently played a gun-wielding stalker in the BBC One drama Jack of Hearts.

The 67-year-old has played the part of the Rocky Horror show's narrator once before - almost exactly five years ago.

In Southampton, he will appear with Darren Day, who plays the lead of Frank N Furter, in the touring production.

Traditionally, the outrageous musical's audience - male and female - join in the spirit of the production by dressing in female underwear.

Booth will be dressed in a tuxedo for much of the show but as it reaches its climactic number, The Time Warp, he races on stage in stockings to take part in the dance routine.

A spokeswoman for The New Rocky Horror Show said: "Part of the role is to control the crowd because it can get a bit rowdy.

"And the narrator traditionally gets a bit of abuse hurled at him so there are bound to be a few people who will want to shout something about Cherie's pregnancy."

Other stars who have appeared in the part of the narrator on the tour include broadcaster Loyd Grossman, Nicholas Parsons and Ken Morley - Coronation Street's Reg Holdsworth.
