Owen Wilson's latest comedy You, Me and Dupree has ended Snakes on a Plane's brief reign as UK box office champion.

The film made £1.6m in its first three days on release - almost £1m more than its nearest rival.

The widely hyped Snakes dropped to two, with Pirates of the Caribbean sequel Dead Man's Chest holding firm at three.

British horror Severance and Volver, the latest drama from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, entered the Top 10 at seven and eight respectively.

Dead Man's Chest remains the year's most successful release at the UK and Ireland box office, with overall takings just short of £50m.

This Friday sees the release of The Wicker Man, a remake of the British horror classic starring Nicolas Cage and Ellen Burstyn.
