US actor Matthew Broderick has broken his collar bone after falling from a horse while holidaying in Ireland.

The 44-year-old was with actress wife Sarah Jessica Parker when he fell at a secluded beach in Donegal.

The Producers star was discharged from Sligo General Hospital after receiving a few hours of treatment.

The couple are staying at their clifftop holiday home along with their three-year-old son James and other members of their family.

Accident

The pair regularly visit their Irish home during the summer months and breaks in filming.

The actor, whose other screen credits include Inspector Gadget, The Lion King and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, often stayed in Donegal as a child and bought a holiday home nearby.

He suffered a broken leg, broken ribs and a punctured lung in a car accident in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh in 1987.

Broderick's rental vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the road, killing two women who were travelling in their car.

He was fined 100 after pleading guilty to careless driving.
