Pirates of the Caribbean has claimed a third week on top of the UK and Ireland box office chart.

Dead Man's Chest saw off a challenge from The Break-Up, starring Jennifer Aniston, which made its debut at two.

Superman Returns, which failed to topple Pirates last week, slipped one place to number three.

Other new entries in the top ten included teen spy flick Stormbreaker at four, and Australian film Little Fish, which stars Cate Blanchett, at eight.

The Break-Up, which also stars Vince Vaughn, pulled off a surprise at the North American box office earlier this year when it toppled The X-Men from the top of the charts.

The film, which was co-written by Vaughn, became the third biggest opener for a romantic comedy.

The second instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean took £3.86m in box office returns, while in the US and Canada, became the fastest film to break the $300m mark.

The Break-Up made £2.41m, with the new Superman film, starring Brandon Routh, bringing in £2.32m.
