Ex-Savage Garden singer 'marries'

Hayes called the ceremony "the most significant event in my life"

Darren Hayes, formerly of Australian pop duo Savage Garden, has announced he has "married" his boyfriend Richard Cullen in a civil partnership ceremony.

The 34-year-old has described the event - which took place in London on 19 June - as "the happiest day of my life".

"I feel lucky to live in an era where my relationship can be considered legally legitimate," he continued.

Hayes was previously married to make-up artist Colby Taylor between 1997 and 1999. Savage Garden split up in 2001.

Hayes formed the band with producer Daniel Jones in 1994. Their hits included Truly, Madly, Deeply and I Knew I Loved You.

The Brisbane-born singer will shortly begin recording a third solo album.

"After what felt like an eternity, I'm finally in a place where my heart is secure and content," he told fans on his official website.
